The State of Alabama AL Department of Labor Elevator Section oversees all elevators in the State of Alabama. In 2003, the Alabama started requiring elevator safety inspections through their elevator safety program.
The legislation (Act No. 2003-349) mandates all elevators other than those located in industrial facilities that are not accessed by the general public, be inspected annually and that inspections be made on elevators under construction to make sure they are properly installed and maintained. The elevator safety program overviews elevator inspections, accident reports, license requirements for persons engaged in elevator construction, elevator repair, and the dismantling of elevators.
